Quakes hold on to beat Galaxy 2-1
Ryan Johnson got the game winner for the San Jose Earthquakes, who refused to be muscled out of the win in their second classico match up of the season. The 2-1 victory moves the Quakes ahead of New York in the league table, but the Quakes remain at the bottom of the Western standings one point below Dallas. The Earthquakes’ office was busy this week. San Jose sent Nick Garcia to Toronto FC as well as discovery rights to Ali Gerba in exchange for a third round pick in the 2010 SuperDraft. Chris Wondolowski and a conditional draft pick in the 2010 SuperDraft were acquired from the Houston Dynamo for forward Cam Weaver.

Quakes end losing streak with win over RSL»
Breaking the losing streak released a lot of pressure for the players as well. The spirit in the post-game locker room was almost as if the team had won a playoff game. “We really didn’t give them much,” Quakes keeper Joe Cannon said. “It was a great performance by the guys tonight. I can’t say enough about the fight.”
